Image
Dir: Randall Wallace Cast: Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Jacob Vargas Duration: 1 hr 39 mins Is Heaven for real? I’m sure the question has crossed your mind at some point of time. We have often heard stories about heaven, read about it, seen it in pictures or in the movies, but the fundamentally personal question remains: Do I believe in heaven? Because ultimately, it’s me and God. No one or nothing else is going to change that. This film, based on a true story, tells the experience of a boy, Colton, who while being operated upon for a ruptured appendix has an experience of visiting heaven. He was four at the time. His father, Todd, a pastor, brushes aside Colton’s experience as being a figment of childish fantasy. But some part of him is intrigued and disturbed. The Burpos, like many families, are struggling to make ends meet. In the midst of this crisis, Colton’s experience casts a shadow of confusion and uncertainty upon them. Todd, being a pastor, has preached a cartlo...

Main Tera Hero (2014) Movie Review

Image
Director: David Dhawan Cast: Varun Dhawan, Ileana D’Cruz, Nargis Fakhri If you’ve got  a lot of time on your hands and don’t know what to do with it, humour yourself with this Varun Dhawan-Ileana D’Cruz starred rom-com, which will leave you gripping your sides in laughter. This film is 2 hours of pure entertainment with a lot of good dialogues, rocking music, ebullient dance sequences and crazy high-end drama. The plot is a bit insipid but lets us know that the Hero will do whatever it takes to get his Heroine (don’t all romantic movies portray the same theme?) The movie opens with our debonair hero, Sheenu (Varun Dhawan) receiving news of his failure to clear the final examinations (which he takes as only a hero in reel life can!) and his subsequent notorious act of kidnapping his professor’s daughter on the day of her marriage and holding her as ransom for 2 marks (which is apparently all he needs to pass!) And so, this unreal story continues, twisted of course to ...

WHO?! ME?!

Imagine this. You are participating in an international competition. As the competition draws to its close, there is excitement among the participants and viewers because of the imminent announcement of the winner. You are one of the many contestants. The speaker crackles indicating movement near the microphone. A voice excitedly announces the name of the winner. It is YOUR name! The crowd bursts into cheers and applause. What is most likely going to be your first response? “WHO?! ME?!” and a torrent of tears (if you’ve really struggled and overcome difficult opposition) or maybe a ‘cool’ nod (affirming the unspoken obvious)? I guess most of us would meet this situation with shock and a sense of unbelief, especially if one feels inferior to the other contestants. Tennis is one sport where such a response to a ‘great’ result is common and aptly displayed. For example, Roger Federer beating Rafael Nadal in an intense 5-setter, to win the Wimbledon trophy. Another example is that of...

Globalisation is interconnectedness, an interaction of people from all over the world. It makes the world a kind of global village, where everyone can get involved in everybody’s business. It also helps to increase the pace of development. The media is the fastest developing entity. A Blackberry mobile with its QWERTY keypad and roll over sensor, outdated an ordinary mobile with an insensitive keypad. But within a span of 2-3 years the Blackberry mobile itself was outdated by the ipad and iphone. Laptops too, are slowly losing out to tablet PC’s. The media has deceloped into an integral part of our life. It has subtly entwined itself with our lives that to a certain extent it has come to define us.        ...
