Superhero fans would have waited for a film like this that features famous superheroes all together battling a common enemy. The last time DC tried something like this was when it produced Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite the critical reviews it received, I quite enjoyed the film and was eagerly looking forward to this – the aftermath of the epic battle of two of DC’s biggest heroes.

The basic plot is simple though its backstory is not. Steppenwolf, an alien conqueror who has tormented worlds from time immemorial arrives on earth (which is now, all of a sudden overly vulnerable with the absence of Superman. I mean, come on! There are dozens of other heroes around the place waiting for the call to arms. But anyway…) He has come to earth in search of three mother boxes which have the power of destroying the planet. Each of these is under the protection of three races of the world: the Amazonians (Wonder Woman’s race), the Atlanteans (Aquaman’s race) and the humans. The last time Steppenwolf came in search of them, the races united and defeated him. Now, despite the existence of the races, he still manages to defeat them and take possession of the boxes (go figure!).

Despite, DC’s attempt to ape Marvel’s success with the Avengers, it fails miserably. Director, Zack Snyder has directed most of DC’s previous films and Josh Whedon who worked on screenplay, also did so for Marvel, yet they fail to bring together a decent storyline with gripping adventure. I can hardly think of anything that went right with the film. The background score was poor, dialogues were pitiable, the action sequences were obscenely phony and the whole story was just a puff of smoke. You can call me biased, but Gal Gadot was the only bright spot in this otherwise drab film.

I came with great expectations but left disheartened. The poster reads, “You can’t save the world alone”. Sorry mates, you can’t save it with this bunch either. Sorry DC but you’ve just screwed up most of our heroes and I don’t think many of us would take kindly to it.
