Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (Movie Review)

Dir: Zack Snyder
Starring: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams
Dur: 2hrs 30
Genre: Action
Rating: 4/5

A single superhero usually creates a lot of excitement but if two of them combine… well you could probably say they could create ‘super-excitement’, more so when those two happen to the biggest names and crowd favourites. This film created quite a hype and promised to be a greater blockbuster. With a title that is worthy of a controversy, nothing less could be expected. However, I must confess that I was a little disappointed with the film.
It seemed strong that Superman and Batman lived across the river from each other but never knew each other before. A forced meeting don’t you think? Despite its name, the film isn’t really about Batman vs Superman. It’s more of Good vs Evil and superheroes aren’t evil. They may be wrong, as the film portrays but they can’t be evil cause that would make them Supervillains. Mentioning supervillains, one does make an appearance but of course he is squashed. Not quite the right word. Let’s just say he is defeated but at colossal cost. Typical of Superman films, the damages are massive and here the people begin to see that and oppose Superman. This attitude gives the film a touch of reality (a rarity in the superhero genre) and contributes to the drama and climax.

All actors are phenomenal although I prefer Christian Bale as Batman. If I had to pick a favourite actor in this movie, it would be Gal Gadot who plays Wonder Woman. Introducing her character begs for a Wonder Woman movie and I’ve heard it’s due next year.
