Marvel returned
with yet another fantastic film on the back of its latest hit, Avengers: Infinity War. Needless, to say
the film reeks of the Marvel spirit with
the typical humour, action-sequences and tight plot. Perhaps the most
interesting aspect of this story is the introduction of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline
Lilly) as the Wasp. Although it doesn’t come as a surprise thanks to its
featuring in the title of the film, the seamless buildup of the story around
her character is interesting.
The film starts on a weird note but later sets things right.
Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-man is facing the consequences of his actions in Civil War. His house-arrest is exploited
very well to achieve comedic relief in the film. In an effort to maintain their renown for levity, I think the
producers went a little far in casting silly characters in key roles. Putting a
bunch of clowns together and allowing them free reign to do their thing – funny
business, is bound to elicit a few laughs.
Although I’m a huge fan of Marvel, I wasn’t very impressed with this film. The good thing is
they maintained the storyline (something that must be kept in mind in order to
understand the ending. When I say ending I actually mean the mid-credits scene).
The film is every bit entertaining as one can expect but it doesn’t really give
the satisfaction that most superhero films offer. I’m not very surprised though
that the film became one of the highest grosser of the year. I think Marvel are in a great position. Any film
they release now, following the massive success of Infinity War is bound to make it big. On any other day, Ant-Man and the Wasp would pass off as
just another superhero flick but not so at the present moment.
